-They are trying for a patch that fix's the direct draw surface creation error ,asking for 128 MB of drive space when a lot of free space is available ,nothing starting when clicking on the Outcast icon and others.

-To increase framrate try the "framed" mode in 400x300 that gives a 512x384 screen with the game running inside a black frame. You can also try turning on the "Cinemascope" option.

-controls.ini in your Outcast directory is a place to rework your control settings. This is something to look at if you are have a joystick as it takes higher priority than mouse and keyboard. !Warning! Make sure the file does not change size! Outcast will not run if it is different. You MUST NOT remove the entries for the joystick completely. Another solution is simply unplugging the joystick

-If you are having troubles with your DVD drive, try to download the latest DVD Win95/98 drivers. The problem is that some drives cannot understand the copy write protection on the CD. Some companies have addressed this with new drivers.

-Steve Page sent in saying that he has found a fix for you guys having problems. Try this out:
1: Open loader.ini file in the 'OC' folder.
2: set 'first time' to: FALSE.
3: just exit folder and boot the game. No need for driver swapping or DirectX screw ups etc. He said it worked on 90% of the systems he has tried it on.

-If you are getting a flickering screen, hold down the ESC and CTRL keys until you get to the desktop. Then hop back into the game. Also try enabling v-sync.

-If you have a Force Feedback joystick, try Esc + Ctrl to get to your desktop, then go to the Controller-options, test the FF and return to the game.

-Mikael Forselius gave us a really good in-depth report on the DVD/CD drives not being seen by the launcher program problem. It seams you will be able to install and run Outcast as long as you don't have your CD/DVD mapped to drive letters X, Y or Z.

• When the game starts, the following message appears : direct draw surface creation failed (especially on Windows 95)
• The game crashes just at the beginning
• The screen is flickering during the game (especially on TNT cards)
• The CD2 or CD1 animation continues even when this CD is in the drive.

• The PC buzzer beeps continuously due to a keyboard overflow or some keys are not responding

Now we're not sure if this actually changes the resolution because in the screenshot he sent me it looks like the game just stretched the image to fit the new screen size. Also if the game just switches the resolution back down, you'll have to re-edit the Loader.ini each time the game is launched.

- Neil reports that a program called PC ACCELERATOR 2000 helped him in getting a better frame rate in Outcast. Download and try it if you are desperate for some more frames over at 3D Files.

- If you are having troubles with your 3d audio, be it EAX or otherwise, make sure that only one of the 3d audio options are selected. People have reported that having both on will screw up EAX.
