THE SCENARIO: As part of a covert experiment, the US military deploys a probe designed to prove the existence of a parallel universe hidden from our own. Though the probe successfully reaches a planet Adelpha in the alternate universe, its first crucial data transmission is mysteriously cut short. The probe's unexpected demise triggers a disastrous chain of events resulting in a black hole that threatens to engulf the earth. Unless the missing probe can somehow be found and repaired, the earth itself is doomed. You are Cutter Slade, Commander of an elite team of scientists chosen to embark on a high stakes mission that will determine the fate of the earth. Standing between you and mission success lies an alternate world populated by mysterious creatures, intelligent beings, and a hostile environment. And that's just for starters... This version of Outcast consists of one level (world) from the full version of the game. Once you go through the activated portal the demo ends. ------------------------------ 3) Default Controls ------------------------------ You can play Outcast with a joystick, a mouse, a keyboard or a combination of all of these peripheral devices. If you get the error "A required DLL file DINPUT.DLL not found" you have not installed DirectX 6. You can download then install the latest version from Microsoft at http://www.microsoft.com/directx Installing DirectX is required to run this game. 2. For your game to run, your hardware must be certified to work with Microsoft DirectX 6 also. If you are experiencing errors and crashes within your game, check to see if your hardware is properly certified. Your system must be 100% compatible with DirectX to ensure the game will work. Make sure you hardware has the correct drivers loaded to play games that require DirectX. To check the status of DirectX 6 on your computer: Click Start-->Find-->Files or Folders and search your C: drive for the file DXDIAG.EXE This will run the DirectX Diagnostic Tool. In this case, check your Display and Sound tab for Certified: YES. If either says Certified: NO, you must contact your computer manufacturer for updated drivers. Call them and ask for drivers that are certified to work with DirectX 6. If they cannot provide you with drivers, your system does not meet the minimum requirement to run the game. 3. If your hardware is certified and you still have problems, it may be due to a software conflict. Close down all open applications and utilities. From your desktop, press Ctrl+Alt+Delete (just once!) and "End Task" on all programs listed EXCEPT the one called Explorer. Your system may not immediately shut down the programs listed. Wait for Windows to say it cannot close the program automatically. If this occurs, press "End Task". 4. If your game controller is not responding make sure of two things: Make sure your gamepad/joystick is set up and calibrated in Control Panel-->Game Controller. 5. In case you still experience problems to play the demo, there are patches available on http:\\www.outcast-central.com ------------------------------ 6) Compatibility ------------------------------ -- Failure to init DDRAW.DLL? If your computer is running Windows 95, you MUST have your display properties set to 32-bit color. You can check this by Opening Control Panel-->Display-->Settings. Here you can change your video card settings to 32-bit color. If your video card does not support 32-bit color, the game will not run. ------------------------------ 7) Reaching Tech Support ------------------------------ You can ask for help with your Infogrames game by reaching us by Phone, Fax, Online and Mail: PHONE: Tech Support can help you by phone between the following hours: Monday - Thursday 8:00am - 5:00pm PST and Friday 9:00am - 5:00pm PST (408) 296-8400 INTERNET: website - http://www.outcast-game.com FAX: Faxes may be sent anytime to: (408) 246-0231 Please include phone number on all faxes MAIL: Infogrames North America Tech Support 5300 Stevens Creek Blvd. Suite 500 San Jose, CA 95129 ------------------------------ 8) Legal Stuff ------------------------------ PLEASE CAREFULLY READ THIS DOCUMENT By using this software you agree to be bound by all the terms and conditions of the following license agreement.
